Sect. Rpt.: Nance
Check sent to SSHBEA made out from the UAB for $70.00. This was from the $2.00 collected per SSH class from each exhibitor in the Spring Fling, along with the required reports from SSHBEA necessary to be submitted for our "Sanctioned" show in May.
Members present liked the idea of including the Show Results along with the minutes.

Shelia asked to be excused, but indicated she would be willing to do the monthly newsletter. Needs input, stories, ideas and topics from members!  Also would like to know if sending out the newsletter following the minutes would be acceptable.
Janae made motion to vote that Shelia be our new newsletter editor. Leslie seconded. Voting unanimously in the affirmative.

Mike asked our youth present if other youth outside clubs would be interested in receiving SSHOW information. Erica and Camille would think of names and get back to us.

Judge imput for Charity Show:
Heather felt judge was friendly, attentive, but noticed confusion in
some of  the class calls (i.e.: TWH class was a 2-gait class, but he called for a canter, etc.)  It was decided the judges cards for each class was completed by the show secty. and the accurate info. was not placed there to begin with.

Leslie suggested we pass this on to Kathy Dorius, UAB Secty.
Roy suggested we have the appropriate type of music playing for our SSH classes. That suggestion was well received. It was suggested that members present do an inquiry re: the number of
SSHBEA horses that are solid colored that would like to continue to exhibit their horse. In the report required by SSHBEA, one of the questions is "number of solid color horse classes, and number of horses in that class".  There are presently several members that have SSHBEA registered horses, but are generally solid in color. Members present felt classes should be available for them, if there is interest.

Roy proposed a motion that we eliminate the Trail Pleasure Class, as there has been little interest in that area at the shows for the past 2 years, >and replace it with 2 new classes for next year ( SSH Gentleman to Ride/SSH Ladies to Ride). Motion seconded by Leslie. Unanimously carried.  Nance will take that info. back to the All Breed Meeting at the end of the yr.  Additional discussion was given on the routine cancellation of classes by the breeds not supporting the show ( Icelandic, Fox Trotter, and Paso Fino).
It was suggested that these classes be reviewed by the UAB from the past 2 yrs. and those having to be routinely cancelled be put at the end of the session they would have normally been placed. Then if they are cancelled, it doesn't affect every other class AFTER them in the session! This info will also be taken to the UAB mtg. by Nance.

Mike brought up the idea of our SSHOW banner being placed near the entrance to the inside arena (a different area would have to be considered for the State Fair) where photos following a class could be taken.  Ideas were entertained to get a red backdrop with the SSHOW banner above the horse and rider. This would add interest and variety to the photos currently being taken at each show.  Nance will plan to get red material before the July show, and members can help set it in place.  At a later date, Leslie will plan to do the SSHOW logo on the backdrop in white.  Goal: to have the banner and photo backdrop in place by the Howard
Franklin Show. On the way out of the arena, exhibitors can request for Roy Topham (SSHOW photographer) to take their photo at the SSHOW backdrop. Roy  alsosuggested that sellers of SSH fill out a "new owner" SSHOW application, giving a FREE membership to SSHOW for the calendar yr. (this would only be the newsletter and e-mail minutes, NOT the t-shirt and other perks) This would give new owners opportunities to get to know the club members, and what opportunities are available such as shows, classes and trail rides. As a payback to the seller, he would get a free FULL PAGE ad in the newsletter for SSHOW for the calendar year. Shelia could then send out a "new member" packet to the new owner as a way of welcoming them into the club. All present voted in the affirmative, and Leslie will type
up an application specificially for SSHOW NEW OWNER MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION and present it at the next mtg.

May Trail Ride report given by Nance.  June 25th trail ride coming up. Joint ride for both MSTWHBA and SSHOW.  Meet at 3 p.m. at the trail head at Yellow Fork. Ride will last about 3 hrs. and dinner will be provided after the ride. Dean Thornton will be our
trail guide. Impt. to RSVP to Mike Morgan ( 209-8398 or 270-7000 ) for numbers for the food!!

Leslie suggested we think about an article written about our SSH breed to be submitted to both newspapers before the State Fair. This could be printed up and placed in the Local or Sports section of the papers. This idea was discussed and well received by members present. Leslie and Nance will write an article for the members to review for the next mtg. in July.

Motion made to adjourn mtg. Next meeting to be held on Sat. July 16th at 10:00 a.m. north end of barn 700 So. Jordan Equestrian Ctr. Mtg. adjourned @ 11:35 a.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Nance Walker, SSHOW sect.
