SSHOW meeting minutes   August 16, 2004 at the home of Val and Janae 
Christiansen 3rd annual pool party and meeting  starting at 6:30p.m.

Members present: Leslie Topham, Matthew Krmpotich, Roy Topham, Ashley 
Topham, Mike Morgan, Wendy Morgan, Vicki May, Randy May, Michelle May, 
Nance Walker, Janae Christiansen, Val Christiansen, Julie Christiansen, 
Shelia Johnson (Romero), Tiana Romero, Keith Sizemore, Marilyn Sizemore.
Minutes approved as per e-mailed.

Treas. Report: Janae gave the total balance to date as $943.59
$38.34 paid to the UAB for the pot luck dinner at the Howard Franklin 
Show$150.00 paid to UAB for SSHOW contribution  as shared expence with 
MSTWHBA to NHSA.

Marilyn gave report on the July Settlement Canyon ride.  18 riders.  
Val  suggested that would be a good fall ride.
2 excellent trail rides are coming up over the Labor Day week-end:
Crayton and Nance Walker  will be hosting a ride along the Strawberry 
Narrows Trail on  Sat. Sept. 4th
Tom and Judy Pearce will be hosting  a ride in Payson Canyon 
originating from the Blackhawk Campground
If interested in going on either of these rides, please let the  
Pearces or Walkers know for further times and directions.

Report on the Morgan Fun Day Show by Nance Walker.  Attendance from the 
SSHOW was low. Why?  Some suggestions were the date it was held.  This 
is a set date ( first weekend in August every year).
Leslie reported on  the up coming High Point Awards Banquet.  Date was 
voted for FRIDAY  OCTOBER 29TH, 2004  Caterers she checked on would be 
approx. $10.00/ $12.00 a plate.  Voted to have a heartier meal rather than " 
finger foods" due to the time of year.  Entertainment will also be a part of 
the evening.  Shelia suggested she may want to present the cost of the  
entertainment as a  sponsorship  for her Father to consider as a 
donation for the club.

Leslie wanted to know the budget amount to spend on the High Point 
Awards.  Janae said there were 12 horses nominated for 2004 high point.  Leslie 
gave ideas from her talking with owners at Bedford Tack with amounts as 
follows: Nylon Halters with name plates listing the category won  ($24.99 usual 
price...$16.99 would be the price they would give SSHOW)
Mike made a motion to allow $250.00 for awards to include fun awards.  
Vicki second the motion.  Roy suggested that if a horse wins more than one 
category, we should upgrade to an engraved leather halter.
Janae suggested for people to continue looking for items to bring for 
our silent auction to be held the same night.  The silent auction  money 
raised THIS YEAR  will help pay for awards NEXT YEAR. Halters will be engraved 
with the title, category won and the year.

Mike spoke with Art Lovato re: erecting a sign or banner at the South 
Jordan Equestrian Center to advertise our shows there next year.  Art said the 
advertisement would be ok to do.

Leslie asked if we had advertised our club activities  and meetings in 
Horse Power .  Mike will contact the Editors of the newspaper re: advertising 
our activities, meeting times and an article on our SSH breed.
