SSHOW Meeting
Minutes October 20, 2003
In the same manner as last year, the officers and Board of Directors will not meet in November and December. The club will reconvene in January 19, 2004. A discussion was held regarding ideas for sponsors. Some of the benefits for being a sponsor to the Spotted Horse Club would be links as well as small ads on our web site, (the SHOW website is near the top of the search engines) advertising on our display tables at shows, small ads in the club’s newsletter as well as a club discount. Businesses mentioned as possible sponsors are SaddleUp, Callisters, SunDowners, IFA, Long Peak Trailers, Horse Crazy. Kathleen volunteered to take letters of invitation to be a sponsor to these people. Tom suggested another way to add to our funds. He suggested that we have a membership packet for new members which would include a free registration inspection by a Certified SSHEBA inspector, free classified ads in our newsletter and on our web site, free links to their businesses on our web site, a free SSHEBA bumper sticker, pencils, buttons. In addition each new member would receive a T-shirt. A discussion was held in which it was decided that these were good ideas. It was also suggested that the T-shirts be of one color (grey with the SSHOW logo in black). Additional colors can be ordered. A motion was made and passed to put together the new membership packet at the cost of - single memberships at $25.00, family membership at $30.00 and youth memberships at $12.00. Janae and Nance have put together the first SSHOW newsletter which they will mail at their own expense shortly. The newsletter lists the officers, news, activities, birthdays, etc. Nance and Janae will also publish rule book information for the show next season and list activities such as the Horse Expo in March. The newsletter will be published on our web site. The Utah All Breeds High Points award requires that one has to be a member of the UAB in order to be eligible. Janae asked about whether our club is recognized by the UAB. It appears that our club is not recognized. A discussion was held and Nance motion that we propose to UBA that in order to qualify for the High Points award, a person must be a current member in good standing of SSHOW. The motion was seconded and approved. Nance also said that if the UAB doesn’t agree, our club will not participate in the UAB high points award. Ron Kunz led a discussion on SSHOW’s Articles of Incorporation. Janae is the registered agent for SSHOW’s Articles of Incorporation. Ron Kunz clarified the procedure for elections. There is one vote for each single membership, two votes for each family membership. In order to vote, a membership must be current. The dues are for a one year membership. There are seven members of the Board of Directors. Three Board Member positions are for one year (odd years), four are for two years (even years). There are three positions up for elections for 2004. Elections of Board Members will be held at the annual Board meeting to be held on the 2nd Monday in January (the 12th) Only the Board of Directors has the authority to remove officers or expel members. A notice will be sent out to each club member two weeks prior to the elections which will be held after the first of the year. Mike Morgan will contact Ron for the wording of the notification. Janae proudly announced that Julie has been invited to carry the SSHEBA flag at their Opening Ceremony, but that she will not be able to do it this year. It is a standing invitation so maybe she will be able to carry the flag another time. Michelle said she will be putting together the awards for the SHOWS and AWARDS. There will be approximately twelve classes of awards. A dinner (to be determined) will be held after the first of the year and the award presented. Nance emailed Janice Higgins at SSHEBA with the SSHOW info for the next SSHEBA magazine. She will ask SSHEBA for money for the Horse Expo. She will talk with Larry Waite who is President of the UAB regarding our input for judges for next season. She will also get a list of SSHEBA approved judges and present the list to UAB. A motion was made, seconded and approved to have Nance act as our representative with the UAB. There is a trail ride scheduled (weather permitting) on the 22nd of November in the Lake Point area. Meet at the truck stop at Lake Point and I-80 at 10:00 am. Contact Ron Kunz for more information. Nance will try to call everyone. The next meeting will be 12th of January location and Award dinner plans will be announced.
